* Click here to view Yaki Teppan Set Meal Promo

My family and I were walking towards Kampar Fish Jelly until mom decided to switch to have lunch at Yaki Teppan instead. Mom has been interested to dine there since she saw the promo notice outside the restaurant.

Many factory workers nearby have their lunch here and if not mistaken, the restaurant has open for 7 years. Decent looking place with air-con and clean. However, parking can be quite a problem here.

This area below is the teppanyaki station. You can opt to sit at the counter if you don't mind the oil and smoke in front of you haha...

Most of us ordered set meals, so while waiting, miso soups, salads and fried tofu wantans (2 pieces per set) were served. They are all included in the set meals.

Green tea was on promotion price, RM1.30 per glass (iced green tea) and RM1.10 (hot green tea). The green tea is a bottomless drink, so refill all you want :D

Soup was ordinary. It should be either from powder or paste. As for the salad, they are shredded cabbage and with some thousand island sauce. Luckily they didn't put much, else it would be too sour. Fried wantan was ok, crispy with smooth fillings :D However the size is too small and there is only 2 for each set ordered :P As a person who loves fried wantan, its definitely not enough. Another plate of fried wantans only would cost about RM6.90 if not mistaken.

After about 10 mins+, the garlic fried rice and main dish arrived. Garlic fried rice was not bad, very fragrant and tasted just nice. But, please be aware that the rice they used is local rice.

My grandfather and I ordered Teriyaki Fish Set, RM10.90 (per set). As you can see, this set came with a bunch of vegetables (cabbage, shredded carrots and bean sprouts) and 4 small fish fillets.

The vegetables were okay as they were not overcooked and the fish has a light crispy outer layer coated with teriyaki sauce. Though, the flavour was a bit too salty for me.

Mom on the otherhand ordered the Prawn Set, RM12.90 (per set). It consists 3 regular sized prawns (about RM2 per prawn, L size?) and some fried vegetables (same with fish set). They were considered not oily to me. Prawns were fresh and bouncy...*toing toing toing* Hahaha

My dad eats alot so he picked Course 6 / Chicken Course, RM15.90 (per set); N.P RM19.90. It has a thin slab of grilled salmon, some chicken teriyaki chicken and grilled prawns with some vegetables (similar with 2 sets above).

I think 2 small eaters can share this as the main dish is quite flavourful. Just order another bowl of rice and you're set to share :)

All sets includes an ice cream dessert. No comment for regular jagung flavoured ice cream.

When we scanned through the menu, we were attracted to Chawanmushi's price, RM2 and yes becacuse of that we ordered it. At the bottom of the Japanese steamed egg custard, there was a small piece of chicken and crab stick.

Well, what do expect from a RM2 chawanmushi?

My aunt didn't want to eat much so she ordered Futomaki (RM 14.90) and shared some with the rest of us. There were 12 pieces actually. Hahaha my aunty snapped a piece of it before I manage to say anything.

Tasted quite okay but I think the rice is a bit overcooked as it was too soft.

Basically, all the dishes here are prepared in a same manner just with different ingredient (i.e. fish, chicken, salmon, saba fish, prawns...etc.) But with the price and location (near to FTZ and USM), the restaurant is considered okay for non authentic Japanese meals.

All in all here's what we ordered:

2 Teriyaki Fish set - RM21.80
1 Prawn Set - RM12.90
1 Course 6 - RM15.90
1 Chawanmushi - RM2
1 Futomaki - RM14.90
3 Iced green tea - RM3.90
1 Hot green tea - RM1.10
1 Carrot Juice - RM2.30

Total = RM74.80 including tax

Frankly, the food here is not for those who are aiming for genuine Jap food. It's real cheap though.

This is one of our favourite places to eat for our dinner when we had afternoon shift..

Very reasonable prices vs. food quality

You should try the Saba fish! highly recommended by many of us who frequented this place
