Penang Jelutong Wan Soon Curry Mee

Final Year Project exhibition is over. A small bunch of assignments more to settle. Soon, everyone grads and that's the end of my university life chapter. Realising that we have more captured visuals of our assignments compared to captured visuals of our university life, we knew we have to do something about it.

That early morning...hmm...okay not so early... me and my friends decided to go to Jelutong for curry mee by motor. Hehe...3 motorcycles were dispatched and off we go! Vroom Vroom...

I haven't visit this stall before but all my friends said its one of the best. Wan Soon Curry Mee. Located opposite Jalan Hijau 4 or next to Mewah Court, Batu Lanchang.

If you stand in front of this stall, you will notice the soup is different from the others. But definitely the same variety with the curry mee at Tanjung Tokong Hai Choo Temple. I saw bunga kantan (ginger flower) and lemongrass floating in the soup.

Judging from the number of patrons sitting inside the shop, it can't go wrong. Because we were late, we had to wait more than 15 minutes for a table. Eventually all 6 of us manage to squezee together, occupying a small table.

First off, a plate of fish balls and fish cakes. Most tables have a plate of this.

Those fish balls would then be dipped into a plate of chilli paste given. This stall's chilli paste is nothing special. Nowhere near the chilli paste prepared by Lorong Seratus Tahun Curry Mee. Not fragrant, not very spicy and its salty :S

They also use the same chilli paste for the noodles. Anyway, the soup base has less coconut milk and much clearer than most curry mee in Penang.

I love the lemongrass and ginger flower smell in the soup. Its more to the savoury side instead of being sweet. Is this my favourite bowl of curry mee? After trying curry mee from a number of stalls, they all have their own flavour. I personally still prefer Lorong Seratus Tahun Curry Mee because of the sweet prawn broth. But it doesn't mean Wan Soon Curry Mee did not captivate me.

Forget about choosing. I'll just have both of them :)

Happy reading~

Hey, I guess the chilli paste is to add to the noodle to enhance the flavour maybe?
