Actually I'd posted this in my xanga site ages ago but I guess it deserves a posting here as well and I just wrote about 'ais kepal' from the 50's...How about going back slightly further? A dessert existed since the 30's perhaps?
You see, I am a very lazy blogger. I will just leave the history and facts to the brochure, below this post ;)
Thanks to Mr. Abdul Azeez, Penangnites can enjoy such a delightful drink that is healthy and effective on a super hot day.
Just the right amount of sweetness, very fragrant rose red syrup (drifferent from ais kepal)and some herbal concoction, coconut flesh (without the skins :P) and my favourite 'frog eggs' XD
I drawn a map here. Hope you guys could find the place :D The brochure was given by the ais tingkap owner. Yupz, this stall is part of the Penang Heritage.
Happy chilling~
Note: I just use back the old pictures, its the same thing.

nic:
Of course, the person brought it to Penang and I believe only penang has it. Even some penangnites never heard this dessert-drink before. This is more special than cendol ;)
Yep, I think this one worth to re-mention :D
Did u ask the boss, "why Tingkap?"
This is the place we wanted to feature during our Drive For Food but then timing not right. :(
aiks? posted a comment but failed. here i go again. Was mentioning bout how Sg Dua flourished over the yrs. brings back lots sweet memories. shouldve taken up food blogging earlier. sigh ...
jason:
aiks itu lah din read the blue brochure. Long loooong time ago the drink was sold through a window, thus ais tingkap. Some call ais dinding cuz the window on the wall XD
precious pea:
actually are you allowed to come straight to penang instead of detouring to other towns?
j2kfm:
ohh you so miss sg dua, got pass by anot when u came to penang? Not yet too late to start blogging.
OMG.. so this is where the Ais Tingkap hidden... LOL... no wonder...
Gosshhh, what's the name of that 'Croakie Drink' you had there? Sherbet? I'm now imagining the sweet rose syrup fragrance & coconut water...plus the selasih , getah anggur...sigghhhhhhhhhhhhh... Next trip I'm not going to miss that place! Thank you for the infos!
Ops... no wonder. XD
Maybe in this century they will 'upgrade' and have "ice Windows"? Sponsored by Microsoft, of course... LOL
pixen:
It's call window sherbet. You should read up on the brochure. Just click on it. It's larger than what you are seeing here.
jason:
hayo...
kenny:
XD ice window? No problem as long as they don't 'freeze' up when we typing blog...hahaha!
Worth a re-post! The 1 and only stall in Penang and maybe M'sia selling this?
durianberry:
yeah thinking about it, his first stop was penang and subsequently no mentioning of other places. Penang shud the the only place selling this. I just cant believe Ho Chiak did not feature this stall. I don't think they are reliable anyway.
My past food experience written in Xanga did not reach out that well. I guess there would be a lot of repost work to do : P 'Thanx' to Xanga :S
got la! we purposely pass by Sg Dua, see see Hamna area (my ex-rented place), to reach Queensbay. Mostly all shops stay the same, except Bali Bali which was Mandarin Cafe. Pelita, Hidden Recipe, and the BBQ/Steamboat all stay intact!
Hahaha! Ho Chiak - not reliable. Reliability depends on the expression of their face mar rite, you said. Lol
j2kfm:
woah they'd been there for so long ady? :S Mandrin Cafe moved to Island Glades, opposite hamid khan school, behind Small Genting Coffee Shop.
durianberry:
really wat...can see sooo clear when they have to say the food nice when its not XD aiyoh kesian...
